jase limJase is a full-time artist and works in her own private studio space. She has actively participated in public exhibitions since 2003. Her interest in art is wide ranging and she has dabbled in fashion design, calligraphy and pottery. Painting is, however, her first passion, a subject she majored in at LASALLE College of the Arts when she undertook the Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. She pursued the Master in Asian Art Histories to further extend her interest in the social, cultural and historical aspects of art production. To Jase, sensory effects from the arts are ephemeral and she believes that art writing can help widen the appreciation and establish a sempiternal engagement with works of art. She focused her M.A. thesis on the late Singaporean artist, Chua Ek Kay. Her thesis, Notion of Void and Solid in Chua Ek Kay’s Chinese Ink Paintings, is an investigation into the visual language which Chua uses, a field which Jase has particular affinity in. As a practicising artist, Jase is able to position herself from the artist’s perspective as well as the observer’s point of views. Jase’s current interests are to challenge her own artistic development and to acquire a broader understanding of art issues.
