This group exhibition presents paintings by three artists from Myanmar, Tartie (1972) Nyein Chan Su, also known as NCS (1973-), Min Zaw (1972-). Each of these three artists has developed a unique style, which reinterprets traditional imagery and technique and appropriates modern and contemporary Western features. While the brush strokes of Tartie transform religious icons into vibrant pop-art images, Min Zaw’s traditional line painting technique gives birth to colourful cartoon like characters. Primary colours also explode in most of the artworks of NCS, be they abstract or figurative. Never directly mentioned, Aung San Suu Kyi is obliquely present in most of their works, through symbolic representations such as the peacock, the emblem of her political party, and beautiful ladies. Through the story of the Lady and the Peacock, this exhibition is an invitation to learn more about Myanmar Nation.

This exhibition is co-curated by Louise Martin and Marie-Mol Pierre. Marie is an alumni of the MA Asian Art Histories Programme
