The students were given a tour by their own peer, Marie Mol (front, centre), who is a trained Singapore Art Museum docent and a guide at Art Stage.
There were also opportunities to meet the artists themselves.
Sudjojono was one of Indonesia’s leading artists of the post-war period. A nationalist at heart, he helped the nationalist forces under Sukarno stir anti-Dutch sentiments by propagating images and producing artworks that advanced the revolutionary cause. An expressionist and realist, he rejected the idealised Mooi Indie (Beautiful Indies) landscapes that were painted by his fellow Indonesian artists
Durriya Dohadwala graduated from the M.A. in Asian Art Histories programme and is currently an independent art writer covering South and Southeast Asia . Her research for her M.A. thesis was centered on the role of exhibitions in positioning contemporary art from emerging countries with a particular focus on contemporary Pakistani miniature art. Durriya has been actively involved in the area
Joseph Tham is an educator based in Singapore. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in the Republic of Singapore, with a B.A. (Hons) in History in 1998. He used to co-run a record shop (Flux Us) selling experimental and avant-garde music and organising musical and sound events featuring both local and overseas artists. He was also a member of Singaporean improvisation-based rock group,
