Sheryl’s love of history began in junior college and led her to pursue a degree in history at the National University of Singapore, specialising in colonial and postcolonial Southeast Asian history. During her undergraduate years, she began to explore different ways in which histories were recorded, and was drawn to photography and photographic archives. In 2010, LASALLE launched its MA Asian Art Histories programme, the world’s first MA programme to focus on Asian modern and contemporary art histories. 15 years strong in 2024, the programme continues to champion a focus on Asian modern and contemporary art histories, nurturing a nuanced and impactful appreciation of art from Asia and a diverse community of scholars who seek to make a difference.

This Postgraduate Research Forum, co-organised by LASALLE College of the Arts Singapore (LASALLE), University of the Arts Singapore, and the University of Bristol (UoB), will feature presentations from students enrolled in MAs and PhDs in the History of Art department at the University of Bristol and recent graduates from the MA Asian Art Histories programme at LASALLE I University of the Arts Singapore.
In December 2023, the MA Asian Art Histories cohort embarked on the first study trip outside of Southeast Asia since the beginning of the pandemic, travelling to Hong Kong to take advantage of the multitude of exhibitions that were being held at several major institutions.
